Isla Grande: Caribbean Island Experience
The tour starts with a drive alongside the Panama Canal going to the province of Colon in northern Panama until arriving to the town of La Guaira in the shores of the Caribbean, where we will be taking a boat to the island.
On the way there we will pass by the historic town of Portobello, where you can see the ruins of one of the famous Spanish castles used to defend the area against pirates... yes, the pirates of the Caribbean did exist!
Once on beautiful Isla Grande you will enjoy white sand beaches and crystal clear waters. We will also go on a boat tour through mangrove channels, visit Isla Mamey, a great place for snorkeling, and have a taste of delicious Caribbean style cuisine.
Includes
Pick-up/drop-off from any hotel in Panama City, visit to beautiful islands, lunch, local biologist guide fluent in English and Spanish.
NOTE: The overnight options also include lodging and meals.
What to Wear
- Shirts, shorts, swimsuit, and sandals
- Do not forget sun protection lotion and if you happen to have one, a hat or baseball cap
- If you have your own snorkeling gear you can bring it with you, if not, it can be rented
Skill Level: Easy
The only physical activities on this tour are swimming and snorkeling, which you can decide how much to do.
Accommodations
For the overnight options we stay at Cabañas Villa Ensueño, a simple small hotel full of color right next to the water. The rooms have A/C and private bathrooms, and it has a nice restaurant. There is no TV, and because Isla Grande is at sea level and the temperatures are hot year round, the hotel does not have hot water showers.
