Cave Exploration: Bayano Lake
We start with a scenic drive from Panama City to a small indigenous community on the shores of Lake Bayano. Here we board a small boat and navigate to the entrance of the caves. This lake is quite big and the landscape is dramatic.
Once inside the caves the real adventure begins, you will immediately feel the adrenaline pumping through your veins as you walk deep into this underground river and start appreciating the most spectacular rock formations created by the hand of time.
After a couple of hours of heart pumping fun, we'll break for lunch and relax in an open area surrounded by huge stone walls, gorgeous forest and a lagoon, where everyone is invited for a swim.
Includes
Pick-up/drop-off from any hotel in Panama City, all transfers (land and water), life vest, flashlights, picnic lunch, refreshments, local biologist guide fluent in English and Spanish.
What to Wear
- Light shirt or t-shirt
- Shorts or light long pants (avoid jeans, they will get too heavy when wet, and they will get wet)
- Sport/hiking shoes (sandals or any other kind of open footwear are not recommended for walking inside the caves)
- You can wear a swimsuit under your clothes for a proper swim at the lagoon
- Extra set of clothes to change afterwards
NOTE: Clothes are going to get dirty, so it's better not to bring anything that you "love that much".
Skill Level: Moderate
Most of the tour consists of walking with flashlights up and down in an underground river with uneven terrain made out of sand and rocks, with some parts that can be a little slippery. Depending on weather conditions, there are some small pools inside the caves that we have to cross and can be up to 5 feet deep.
