Panama Canal Eco-Tour
We start by picking you up at your hotel in Panama City followed by a land transfer to the area of Gamboa and the Soberania National Park. Here we switch to our small boat and start navigating in the Panama Canal.
During the first part of the tour we will be passing right next to huge cargo ships transiting the Canal, allowing you to take pictures from a privileged perspective.
Later on we take a turn and go through channels made out of small islands to appreciate an incredible diversity of exotic tropical plants and trees, birds, and other animals in their natural environment, such as iguanas, turtles, sloths, howler, and white faced monkeys.
This tour also includes a guided walk in the rainforest to visit US military installations abandoned after WWII, it's quite an impressive sight to witness how the trees are literally eating up these buildings.
At the end of the tour we will transfer you back to your hotel in Panama City.
Early Start Note: Animals are more active early in the morning, so this increases the chances of spotting them in the wild. We can start the tour later upon request and still be able to see animals; but the early start is better.
Includes
Pick-up/drop-off from any hotel in Panama City, boat tour, guided walk in the rainforest, refreshments, local biologist guide fluent in English and Spanish.
What to Wear
- Light shirt or t-shirt
- Shorts or light long pants (avoid jeans, if it rains they will get too heavy when wet)
- Sport/hiking shoes (sandals or any other kind of open footwear are not recommended for walking in the rainforest)
Skill Level: Easy
The majority of the time you will be sitting on the boat. However, the walk in the rainforest, although mostly on flat terrain (only the first 5 minutes are up hill), can be up to 1 hour in length.
